Love teams vs. love teens: How the scripted relationships affect the perceptions and the attitudes of teenagers on REALationships
Bolaño, April F.; Calubiran, Petty Dane C.; Dolor, Joanne Amor D. (Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2018-04)
Aside from being the second most avid television consumers, Filipinos especially teenagers, have become increasingly immersed to watching romantic-themed teleseryes by the different emerging love teams such as JaDine and KathNiel. The evident fandom to these love teams lead to the conduct of the study to identify the effects of the scripted portrayal of a romantic love and relationship to the perceptions and the attitudes of teenagers on romantic love. Research design using qualitative and quantitative approach was utilized. George Gerbner's Cultivation Theory was used to answer how exposure affects the perceptions and the attitudes of teenagers on romantic love. The survey was conducted among 90 qualified respondents across (3) three public high schools in Miag-ao, Iloilo. The 5—point Likert scale was used to measure the influence of the two love teams' teleseyes in the perceptions and the attitudes of teenagers. Results show that high exposure on teleseryes affect teenagers' perceptions and attitudes on romantic love as portrayed by the love teams. However, it was also noted as per results, that not all that were shown in the teleseryes are being mirrored by teenagers as real since they also critic if those depictions of romantic love really happen in reality.

Like mother, like daughter: Exploring the mother-daughter relationships and intergenerational early pregnancies
Bohos, Maecy Antonette C.; Delgado, Ken Ryan T. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2022-07)
This qualitative study is a scientific investigation on the local contexts of intergenerational early pregnancy. It specifically looks into the relationships between mothers and daughters to uncover the underlying social realities that shape the phenomenon. Social Learning Theory is used to frame the study and to assist in the understanding of the mother-daughter relationships and intergenerational early pregnancy. To collect the data, this study used in-depth interviews of 5 motherdaughter dyads (N=10) from two provinces—North Cotabato and Antique. Following the interviews, the data was organized and analyzed using the approach Thematic Network Analysis. The results generated the 4 organizing themes with corresponding basic themes/subthemes: (1) lived experiences during early pregnancy with subthemes reactions to pregnancy, challenges experienced, coping mechanisms, and external support; (2) family dynamics with subthemes family status, physical and emotional distance, and parental monitoring; (3) mother-daughter communication with subthemes conversations, and sexual and reproductive health communication; and (4) daughter's sexual and reproductive health knowledge and behaviors with subthemes sources of SRH education, level of knowledge, and early sexual initiation. The study's findings suggest the need for parent-based or family-centered interventions regarding adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Early pregnancy becoming intergenerational among Filipino families further encourages the cycle of poverty.

A descriptive study on how adolescents respond to value-bearing communication
Asong, Mariver A.; Bobe, Minnie Marie M.; Guadalquiver, Nanette L.; Jalover, Carol P.; Niembra, Lorlyn C.; Rasmo, Anna Vina Lisa L.; Salazar, Ma. Jonalyn U.; Tupas, Euridice L. (Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 1995-03)
This study is an attempt to re-validate the study framework of Dr. Jacobson Kliatchko, which he used in his dissertation entitled, Communication and Attitude Development: A Philosophical Perspective. The framework deals with the development of attitudes after exposure to value-bearing communication. Because this study does not deal with the cause and effect relationship, the variables are rather called as components. The components of such study framework are: environment, value-bearing communication, and attitude. In this study, the environment is Marillac Academy. The value-bearing communication is the module on good study habits. And the attitude is the study habits of the respondents. needed data. Purposive sampling was used to determine the respondents. The essays and interviews with the students and the questionnaires filled up by the parents were the instruments designed to elicit the needed data. The general objective of this study is to determine how adolescents respond to value-bearing communication. Results reveal that although most of the respondents did not follow their study schedule, all of them have allotted time for their studies as reflected by the filled up observation sheets accomplished by the parents. This suggests that there is favorable response on the part of the respondents towards value-bearing communication. The study framework of Dr. Kliatchko that was used in the study shows that there is indeed an attitude formed when a value-bearing communication is inputted to a certain environment.
