    Hallyu: The K-Pop phenomenon a critical analysis of K-POP music

    This thesis is a critical analysis of the factors that makes K-Pop music popular. The researchers wanted to objectively look at the music genre since there are only few studies of K-Pop despite its growing global attention in the entertainment industry.The study first traced the emergence of K-Pop, followed by the discussion of its packaging and promotion strategies as well as its implications on Philippine local music industry. The study used Commodification of Culture by Hannah Arendt and Theodore Adorno (1973) and the assumptions of Transnational Media Management Theory by Barbara Parker (1996). The proponents interviewed experts: 3 from the academe, 2 from the media organizations, 2 from the music industry and 2 representatives from K-Pop fan groups and with the Director of Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines. The proponents also did library and online research. The study found out that K-Pop started mainly from K-Dramas and that a combination of well-produced music and music videos, packaging and promotion strategies of Korean entertainment companies, both government and private sector efforts as well as the good adaptation to advance technologies have made K-Pop a global success.

    Critical analysis of local newspapers' design

    The study, "Critical Analysis of Local Newspaper Design", gives the idea of how local newspapers in Iloilo are designed through evaluation of the four elements of design namely headline, text, photo, cutline and the over-all layout of the front page. The duration for the evaluation occurred for a span of four weeks. The subjects for the study were the seven newspapers found in Iloilo City. As a result of the evaluation, it has been found out that in headline layouting, all seven newspapers failed to be consistent in following the line-column formula and the 5-10 words headline guideline. In text layouting, the common problems are the measurements of the legs of columns and jump stories. For photos found in the front page, most of them do not have borders and with excessive use of photo cliches. The photos all look natural but do not suggest actions. For cutline, not all newspapers observed proper placement which should be outside the photo. For the overall layout, majority of the newspapers have balance. The researchers observed that there is a need to improve the front page layout of local newspapers in Iloilo City.

    The classification and regulation of AM Radio programs

    The study "The Classification and Regulation of AM Radio Programs" provides us the reasons why there is a need to classify and reinforce regulation on AM radio programs based on the MTRCB guidelines, the KBP Code, and the opinion of Ilonggo radio listeners and broadcast practitioners. The study covered 12 barangays with 400 respondents and eight broadcast practitioners from four AM radio stations in Iloilo City. From the results of the study, we have found out that radio stations created program innovations that affected the listeners. There is a need to put classification in order to separate sensitive topics that are not suitable for all listeners, to protect children by knowing which programs they can listen to, to avoid hearing double meaning words, extremely violent stories and sensitive topics about sex. There is a need to reinforce regulation because of the failure to adhere to broadcast standards of some radio programs, KBP's leniency in the implementation of its rules and regulation and the effectiveness of self-regulation. Thus, we have the determined that there is a need to put classification and to reinforce regulation in AM radio programs to protect the moral values of Filipino radio listeners.

    Level of influence of east asian countries in the Ilonggo culture through television

    This study is about the Level of Influence of East Asian Countries in the Ilonggo Culture. The researchers identified the different East Asian television shows aired in the two giant networks - ABS-CBN and GMA since January- July 2009 and determined the influence of these East Asian television shows in the Ilonggo culture in terms of attitude, lifestyle and music. Furthermore, the researchers also identified the role of television in shaping the culture of the people. The researchers did a survey on the residents of randomly selected barangays of Molo and Villa districts to determine the level of influence of these East Asian television shows on their culture. The results showed that majority of the respondents have a positive attitude and practice in terms of lifestyle specifically clothing and accessories and music towards East Asian television shows. Thus, East Asian television shows have an influence in the Ilonggo culture.
