Item Unemployed college graduates' perception of the existing unemployment condition in the countryArroz, Mizpah B.; Duarte, Iris Faye M. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2005-04)The study seeks to know how the unemployed college graduates perceived the existing unemployment condition in the country. Forty-five (45) unemployed college graduates in the town of Miag-ao, Iloilo served as respondents of the study. Majority of them were between 20-25 years of age. Interview schedule was used in gathering data. Data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. Results show that generally, unemployed college graduates of Miag-ao, Iloilo have a positive perception that they can find a job. Work experiences, high educational attainment and personal connections were the reasons of respondents that they will be employed in the future. However, steep competition and rigid requirements set by agencies and companies turned out to be the reasons for unemployment. With regard to job preferences, most of the respondents wanted to work in government agencies because it offers more benefits compared to private agencies. It further reveals that working abroad is the best resort for employment. Majority has plans of finding job outside the country for it offers higher salary and more job opportunities than in the country. The researchers recommend that further study be conducted regarding college graduates' perception of the unemployment condition in the country. The Local Government or Non-Government Organizations also in the community could initiate programs or activities that would give these individuals income while they are still unemployedItem Perception of Ilonggo college students on sexual agressionArnaldo, Hazel Joy J.; Eliseo, Vargas F., Jr. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2011-03)This study explored the perception of Ilonggo college students on sexual aggression. This was approached with the attempt to generate an Ilonggo youth culture definition and concept of sexual aggression. Four focus group discussions were conducted among varied gender groups (males, females, gays and lesbians). A total of 22 participants between 17-21 years old, from different colleges and universities in Iloilo and were either experienced in dating relationships or not. Results showed that sexual aggression, for these Ilonggo college students, is naturally occuring in dating relationships. There are specific behaviors enacted as sexual aggression in conducive environments, and that coercion is part of the sex play in which one must initiate and the recipient will follow whether he/she likes it or not. There are also gender differences and specific Filipino traits in determining perceived susceptibility to sexual aggression.Item Reality vs. reality: Real life emulating reality TVAlli, Zerlene; Cabarga, Herchelle Anne; Satiagudo, Emme Rose (Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2018-05)The immense influence of reality television has paved the way for the massive success of Big Brother franchise across the globe. Here in the Philippines, Pinoy Big Brother continues to become one of the most popular reality shows. The increasing popularity of PBB to its audience especially the youth prompted the conduct of the study to identify the perceptions on real life resulted from Ilonggo teenagers' exposure to PBB Lucky Season 7. Anchored on George Gerbner's Cultivation Theory, the researchers conducted a survey among Grade 12 Senior High School students in the First Congressional District of Iloilo. The researchers utilized the gualitative and guantitative method in data collection and analysis. The overall mean score reflected a positive perception, thereby, the researchers have concluded that reality TV viewing has a positive effect on the perception of Ilonggo teenagers towards real life. The positive perceptions revealed that regardless of being light viewers, respondents’ exposure to PBB Lucky Season 7 bears effect in influencing their perception on real life. Hence, it presents a different light on Gerbner's Cultivation Theory, which states that television's immense influence is mirrored on the heavy viewers. The reality cultivated by reality shows like Pinoy Big Brother is a manifestation of the strength of the television as a medium and as a powerful tool that can shape the minds and the society.Item Youth perception towards EDSA II and their willingness to participate in political activitiesAblanida, Ligaya A.; Deadio, Dyan S. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2003-03)This study is a correlational study on the Perceptions of the Youth towards EDSA II and their Willingness to Participate in Political Activities. The study was conducted among one hundred fifty-three (153) randomly selected third year and fourth year high school students from Central Philippine University and West Visayas State University. The results of the study showed that the youth have a positive perception towards EDSA II and have a high level of willingness to participate in political activities. There is a linear relationship between youth perception and willingness. Results revealed that factors such as sex, religion and school orientation do not influence youth perception towards EDSA II. The study concludes that there is indeed a relationship between the youth perception towards EDSA II and their willingness to participate in political activities. However, the factors identified in this study do not have a bearing on youth perception towards EDSA II. The researchers recommend further studies should be conducted, which involved the participation of youth in any governmental matters.
