Koreans in Iloilo City: Their lifestyles, social-psychological and cultural adjustment
Cabangal, Joann; Ledesma, Chrisgel (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2005-03)
This study sought to know the sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, social- psychological, and cultural adjustment of Korean visitors in Iloilo City, who were currently enrolled in Moohan Tutorial Services, Inc. The results showed that Koreans in Iloilo City are generally single with ages ranging from 20 to 30 years old and are dependent on the allowances they receive from their parents or guardians monthly. The study also showed that Koreans in Iloilo City are relatively well adjusted in their life in the Philippines, which is manifested in their improved social interaction with the locals of Iloilo City. At the same time, they are generally well off as reflected on their spending patterns as compared to the Filipinos’ standard of living. They relatively spend more than an average Filipino would spend for food, transportation, clothing and many others for a certain period of time.

A correlational study on the self-evaluation of job performance and job satisfaction among CAS-UPV teachers
Cabardo, Liberty Rose A. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 1997-04)
The purpose of this study was to determine the job performance and job satisfaction of CAS-UPV teachers, and to examine the relationship between performance and satisfaction. Specifically, three elements were included in this study: (1) the self-evaluation of job performance among CAS-UPV teachers by division, educational attainment and years of teaching experience; (2) the self-reported job satisfaction among CAS- UPV teachers; and (3) the relationship between job performance and job satisfaction. A non-experimental correlation research design was used in this study. The population of the study consisted of all College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) teachers of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV), Miagao campus, Iloilo. Out of the 107 possible respondents, 74 respondents returned their questionnaire which had three parts: the PERSONAL INVENTORY PROFILE, the SELFEVALUATION QUESTIONNAIRE ON JOB PERFORMANCE, and the JOB SATISFACTION SCALE. Using the one-way ANOVA, it was found that: (1) there was no significant difference in the self-evaluation of job performance when the CAS-UPV teachers were grouped according to division and educational attainment; (2) there was no significant difference in job satisfaction when the CAS-UPV teachers were grouped according to their respective division; (3) there was a significant difference in the self-evaluation of job performance when the CAS-UPV teachers were grouped according to years of teaching experience; (4) there was a significant difference on job satisfaction when the CAS-UPV teachers were grouped according to educational attainment and years of teaching experience; and (5) there was a significant relationship between job performance and job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction of teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel of Cabalum Western College
Cabalum, Jesse Rey Thomas S. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 1997-06)
The study aim to determine whether there was a difference in job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel before and after the 15th day salary. The following are file objectives of the study: (1) To determine whether there was a significant difference in job satisfaction before and after the 15th day salary was given, (2) To determine whether there was a significant difference in job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel before the 15th day salary was given, (3) To determine whether there was a significant difference in job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel after the 15th day salary. The following hypotheses were formulated : (1) There was a significant difference in job satisfaction before and after the 15th day salary was given. (2) There was a significant difference in job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel before the 15th day salary was given. (3) There was a significant difference in job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel and teacher-administrative personnel after the 15th day salary was given. The schedule was set up by the researcher and the College Dean for Academics (study's cohort) five days before the first 15th day salary for the month of February on February 10, 1997 and after the first 15th day salary on February 20, 1997. The research instrument used was the Job Descriptive Index (Kendall and Hulin, 1969) and was used before and after the 15th day salary. There was no significant difference in the level of job satisfaction before and after the 15th day salary. The researcher also found out that there was no difference in the level of job satisfaction among teachers, administrative personnel, and teacher- administrative personnel before and after the 15th day salary.

Growing up in culture of gambling: Explaining adolescent students' academic performance using the Theory of Planned Behavior
Burgos, Jaclyn Gay S. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2017-06)
Integrating lcek Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior, this study seeks to explain the factors that influence the academic performance of adolescent students. In assessing the academic performance: questionnaires for attitudes towards behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and intention were administered to adolescent students (n=88) in rural areas of Iloilo. A Pearson-product moment correlation was used to examine the correlation between the factors and academic performance. There were five participants who joined the focused group discussion and their answers provided an indepth connection of the variables. Results of the quantitative analysis stated that attitude towards behavior, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control are individually correlated with intention but only attitude towards behavior is significantly correlated with academic performance. The results from this study can be used in schools and related government agencies in shaping students to have a more positive outlook with regards to academic performance.

The effect of playing violent video games and gender on aggression among first year students in Iloilo National High School
Balicanta, Alexander John F.; Cacho, Charlotte J. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2002-03)
The study was conducted to determine the effects of playing violent video games and gender on aggression among first-year high school students. The experimental design utilized two treatment groups and two control groups. The four groups consisted of (1) males who played the violent videogame; (2) females who played the violent videogame; (3) males who played the nonviolent videogame; and (4) females who played the nonviolent videogame. In this study, aggression was measured using the Direct and Indirect Aggression Scales (DIAS). The DIAS consists of 24 items that measure physical, verbal, and indirect aggression. Prior to the administration of the DIAS, the participants were first asked to play video games. Two groups were assigned to play a violent video game, and the other two groups played a nonviolent game. The participants’ scores in the DIAS were computed and analyzed using the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with interaction. This is done to show if the variables type of video game played and gender significantly affect aggression among adolescents. The two-way ANOVA with interaction yielded three computed values of F. Results show that there is a significant F-ratio on the variable type of video game played. The obtained F is 5.45, and an F of 4.26 is required at the 0.05 level with 1 and 27 df. Since 5.45 is greater than 4.26, the null hypothesis is rejected. Thus, the conclusion is that the type of video game played has a significant effect on aggression among first-year high school students. However, the F-ratio derived for the variable gender was not significant. The obtained F is 3.59, and an F of 4.26 is required at the 0.05 level with 1 and 27 df. Since the value of F is less than 4.26, the null hypothesis on gender is accepted. Thus, gender has no significant effect on aggression among first-year high school students. The F ratio derived for the interaction of the two variables is also not significant. The computed value of F., which is only 0.297, is less than 4.26. The null hypothesis, thus, is rejected. This leads to the conclusion that the type of videogame played and gender do not interact to affect aggression.
