Alanzalon in 2011.An online survey among 196 Ilonggo Kpop fans, and focus interviews to fifteen (15) Ilonggo Kpop fans of the Korean groups Girls' Generation, Super Junior, Shinee, Bigbang and EXO. The researchers determined the variables of "consumption of Kpop content, cultural offerings present in Kpop content, and. needs of the fans satisfied by Kpop content" (Alanzalon , 2011). It was found out that the Ilonggo respondents are highly exposed to Korean popular music, consumed these media texts through various media channels, predominantly the Internet. Among the various cultural offerings, the research found out that the visual aspect has the most impact among Ilonggo fans and choreography is its most appealing facet. Aside from surveillance, identification and interaction; entertainment was discovered to be the most gratified need of Ilonggo Kpop fans. Despite the apparent language differences, it was ascertained that it is not a barrier to fans' consumption but rather paves way to languageacquisition. Particular factors were hereby uncovered: increasing accessibility of the Internet; entertainment, choreography in particular; language acquisition and; new knowledge acquirement. These factors found in media of international source, such as the phenomenal Kpop Music TV (MTV), can be a tool to help the local media enhance MTV productions, leading to increased consumption among the Ilonggo MTV viewers.Item Social responsibility on the use of media technologyBeloya, Marian Kristina C.; Camancho, Rea Micah C.; Perez, Mary Lydannie V.; Villanueva, Ma. (Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2014-04)This research is geared towards identifying the visual elements that make BMPM photojournalism as either a catalyst or a threat according to Negros traditional journalists, specifically in determining if the values required for traditional media to become newsworthy be likewise applied to Bayan Mo I-Patrol Mo (BMPM)'s photojournalism when comparatively analyzed. It assesses if Negros traditional journalists are in approval or disapproval of BMPM as a citizen journalism platform especially during Typhoon Yolanda. This study is carried out in order to further understand BMPM's implications, as a social-media based citizen journalism platform, to the society. A content analysis wherein Typhoon Yolanda-related BMPM photos submitted from November 8 up to December 8 are analyzed and a survey answered by Negros Press Club members selected through Systematic Random Sampling were conducted. Content analysis results showed that catalyst visual elements prevail more than its threat counterpart, signifying that traditional news values are dominantly applied in BMPM photos. On the other hand, survey results have shown that Negros traditional journalists viewed that BMPM photojournalism contains visual elements of threat. Furthermore, they disapproved BMPM as a citizen journalism platform because it can reduce the quality of journalism disseminated to the public due to the uncertainty of Bayan Patrollers' lack of formal background in journalism.Item Status of digital filmmaking in the PhilippinesAyuste, Ira Sheena C.; Guda, John Mark P.; Noveros, John Trexy N. (Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2006-10)The Philippines was once considered to be one of the most prolific filmmakers in Asia, second to Bollywood of India. However, through the years, the Philippine Film Industry suffered a decline in number of film productions. With the advancement of technology, independent Filipino filmmakers started to work on digital films. The year 2005 is considered to be the peak of digital filmmaking in the country. Numerous independent digital films were produced and some wore given international recognition and awards. Since digital imaging technology naturally pixelize when images are enlarged, as in exhibition in theaters, and a rather low image projection compared to commercial film which has a finer texture , it can be resorted for low-cost production of digital films. Since it has a low-budget, it doesn't star famous actors and actresses. It has also high risks of piracy since digital format can easily be copied. However, digital films' strongest- components are its relevant societal themes and storyline and new film treatment and creative freedom. It's usually being directed by new, young directors who have fresh ideas and insights, which sometimes, even the most sensitive subjects are being tackled. It primarily targets and develops a new set of audience, who basically belong to today's generation as digital filmmakers claimed to be the voice of the new generation on how they see life, the society and the world. Promotion is the main problem of digital producers. It doesn't have enough funding to have its film promoted on TV and print. However with the continuous struggle to educate the viewing public, with the help of different sectors, digital filmmaking has the potential to compete with commercial films in terms of volume of viewer ship, eventually contributing to the increase of film production in the Philippine Film Industry.
