Locus of control, resilience, and self-esteem of children of displaced workers
Bonilla, Krisna G. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2010-03)
Displacement from work has been considered to be influential not only to workers themselves but also to their families, especially their children. This study focused on three particular facets of personality of children of displaced workers: locus of control, resilience, and self-esteem which were examined using the CNSIE scale, Ego Resiliency Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and an interview schedule. The study included 37 respondents (14 males, 23 females) aged 14-21 years old, who were children of displaced workers from Palawan. Based on the data gathered, it was found that majority of the respondents had external locus of control, high resilience, and low self-esteem. It was further deduced that parents’ displacement from work has an influence among their children’s personality development.
