Item Psychosocial costs of post-employment of Overseas Filipino Workers of Leon, IloiloBritanico, Lee Robert M.; Roxas, Pearl Marie C. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2007-03)This study aimed to find out the psychosocial effects of post-employment on the OFWs, as well as how they would reintegrate themselves to their respective families and communities. Thirty five respondents, 23 female and 12 male, were selected through convenience sampling. The respondents were residents of Leon, Iloilo. Each has worked abroad for at least 5 years, is married, and has children. The findings did not support the idea that labor migration affects primarily the relationship of the migrant workers to their family and community. The respondents remained close to their family despite being away from them for quite a time. Their reintegration to community was relatively easy despite being unaware of the reintegration programs of the governmentItem Organizational climate and levels of job burnout among nurses in selected private and public hospitals in Iloilo CityBragancia, Imee Grace E.; Vergara, Catherine Joy C. (2004-03)This correlational study aimed to find out whether organizational climate has a significant relationship on job burnout among nurses in selected private and public hospitals in Iloilo City. A total of 44 respondents participated in the study. Thirty-two (32) nurses came from private hospitals, namely Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital and Iloilo Mission Hospital. While 12 nurses came from West Visayas State University Medical Center, which is a public hospital. The Work Climate Questionnaire by Deci (2000) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory by Maslach (1981) were utilized for data gathering. Generally, results revealed that the higher the nurses perceived autonomy support the lower their degree of burnout in emotional exhaustion and depersonalization subscales. However, while private and public hospital nurses were satisfied with the autonomy support provided by their supervisors, they still reported a lack of personal accomplishment. The researchers recommend that future research should be done on correlates of personal and organizational factors on nurse burnout.Item Locus of control, resilience, and self-esteem of children of displaced workersBonilla, Krisna G. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2010-03)Displacement from work has been considered to be influential not only to workers themselves but also to their families, especially their children. This study focused on three particular facets of personality of children of displaced workers: locus of control, resilience, and self-esteem which were examined using the CNSIE scale, Ego Resiliency Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and an interview schedule. The study included 37 respondents (14 males, 23 females) aged 14-21 years old, who were children of displaced workers from Palawan. Based on the data gathered, it was found that majority of the respondents had external locus of control, high resilience, and low self-esteem. It was further deduced that parents’ displacement from work has an influence among their children’s personality development.Item Computer-mediated-interactive-communication technology and self-disclosure of seafarers in MiagaoBarrios, Justicia S. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2013-03)Thirteen (13) married seafarer residents of Miagao were selected through convenience sampling for this study. They had at least 2 years of on board working experience and have finished their contracts abroad in not more than a year during the data collection. A semi-structured interview guide was utilized to gather basic information and the implication of computer-mediated-interactive-communication technology to selfdisclosure between seafarers and their partners. Results showed that all respondents utilize cellular phones and that majority utilize computers for video chatting and internet relay chat in communicating with their partner. Respondents reported disclosing about their family, financial matters, work experiences, and their feelings.
