Item Factors associated with relationship formation, maintenance, and dissolution among lesbian couples in Iloilo CityBengan, Tricia Kay B.; Isleta, Ashley Monique L. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2018-05)The study was conducted to explore the nature of relationship formation, maintenance, and dissolution among Filipino lesbian couples in Iloilo City. Twelve (12) lesbians served as respondents for the study. All the respondents must have been self-identified lesbians and have been in previous relationships with the same sex. The study is descriptive in nature, utilizing an interview guide as instrument. Results in the study revealed that lesbians mostly meet in online sites, do not have courting process, have the same values, beliefs, and personality with their partners, and communicate through personal meetings. Majority pointed out cheating or presence of a third party as the reason for their break-up.Item Religious beliefs and perspectives of afterlife and the acceptance of death cancer patientsBelleza, George Fabe Emmanuel F. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2018-05)The study was conducted to describe the religious beliefs, practices, perspectives of afterlife and to determine the acceptance of death of cancer patients. Ten (10) cancer patients at Iloilo served as respondents for the study. Among the different religions in the Philippines, Roman Catholic was the dominant religion among the participants. The respondents answered questionnaires, which consisted of the Brief Religious Inventory, the Belief in Afterlife Scale (BA) and Death Anxiety Scale (DAS). Results of the study showed that the cancer patients had high levels of religious belief and high levels of belief in afterlife. Majority of the participants scored low levels of death acceptance. The cancer patients all believed in God and life after death however, the majority of the patients were still afraid to die.Item Locus of control of male adolescents with imprisoned fathers: Its relation to their academic adjustmentBataan, Arminda A.; Losare, Anna Marie C. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2002-03)This study sought to determine the kind of locus of control of the respondents and the level of academic adjustment as seen in their grade point averages. The researchers aimed to find out if there exists a relationship between locus of control and academic adjustment of these male adolescents with imprisoned fathers. This study was patterned on a previous research on the relationship between the same variables but this study utilized a different instrument and respondents came from Iloilo province. Fifteen (15) college students whose fathers were imprisoned at the time that they were enrolled served as respondents of the study. All respondents came from Iloilo, 33% of which are from Iloilo City and the remaining 67% are from the municipalities. Their ages range from 17-24. Respondents were selected using the snowball method. Respondents were asked to answer the Trice Academic Locus of Control Scale. The scale is composed of 28 items answerable by true or false determined the kind of locus of control of these male adolescents with imprisoned fathers. In addition, the respondents were asked to submit their copy of grades of the previous semester to determine how well they adjust academically. The computed Pearson Product Moment Correlation is r=0.26 with a rcrit=0.441 at 0.05 alpha. This signifies that indeed there is a significant relationship between locus of control and academic adjustment of male adolescents with imprisoned fathers. However, it revealed a weak positive correlation between locus of control and academic adjustment. The findings imply that locus of control is not the sole cause or factor for academic adjustment. The cause or source of a well-adjusted academic performance of male adolescents with imprisoned fathers may therefore be attributed to other factors such as economic and social support coming from family and friends. Such factors could even lead to a poor academic performance. Lastly, academic adjustment and locus of control vary among the respondents, which suggest individual differences among themItem Exposure to sexually violent films: Judgements on domestic violenceBasco, Wendy G.; Gallardo, Bonnie L. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2003-03)This study aimed to know if exposures to sexually violent films have effect toward judgments on domestic violence victim. The three hypotheses were: 1) There is a significant effect from gradual exposure to sexually violent films toward judgments on domestic violence victim ; 2) There is a significant effect from sudden exposure to sexually violent films toward judgments on domestic violence victim and 3) There is a significant effect from non-exposure to sexually violent films toward judgments on domestic violence victim . This study is experimental which made use of randomized group design or (between group design). The participants of this study were composed of thirty (30) students of UPV Miag-ao, enrolled in Psychology 101 during the second semester on Academic year 2002-2003. The participants were chosen using the random sampling. They were equally distributed to three (3) treatment groups (2 experimental and 1 control group) with ten (10) participants each group. This research project utilized Rape Myth Acceptance Scale, Acceptance of Interpersonal Violence Scale and Myth on Domestic Violence Scale to measure the judgments of participants toward domestic violence victims. Splices from three films (Friday the 13th Part II, American Psycho and I Spit on Your Grave) were also used. The result of the study F (2,29) = 3.35 p< .05 yielded that there is a significant effect of non-exposure to sexually violent films toward judgments on domestic violence victim.Item Level and areas of occupational aspiration of street children in Iloilo City Proper as affected by their ordinal position, size of family and educational levelBarrios, John E. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 1994-03)This is a study on the "effect of ordinal position, size of family and educational level on the level and areas of occupational, aspiration of street children in Iloilo City Proper. The study hypothesizes that there is no significant relationship in the level and areas of occupational aspiration of street children of varied ordinal position, size of family and educational level. Chi-Square test for independence was used to find out if there is a significant relationship between the variables at 0-05 level of significance. The results show that street children in Iloilo City Proper aspire for high level occupations failing into areas under Science, Technology and Culture—related :most of them are. middle children, enrolled in the primary level and come from big families. The study suggests future researchers on the level and areas of occupational aspiration of street children should take into consideration the street children's performance in- school and the programs conducted by agencies concerned, especially those with their education and family therapy-Item Disorientation and queering action in distance education: The queer lived experiences of the queer Filipino teacherBalensoy, Timoteo C., III (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2022-05)Queer studies highlight that beyond the idea of gender and sexuality, queerness branches through a vast field of disciplines and focus, urging scholarly interest towards the queer phenomenological question regarding the peculiar and confusing experiences an individual acquires when occupying a particular space as well as the actions they do in a space. Utilizing Ahmed’s Queer Phenomenology (2006) as the theoretical anchor for this inquiry, this study explored queer lived experiences through the experiences of disorientation and the queering actions of queer Filipino teachers; specifically, the mechanisms, the experiences, and the outcomes as queer Filipino teachers become challenged by the normativity of distance education, and how they addressed the challenges they experienced from the disorientation. Through interviews with eight (8) self-identified queer DepEd High School teachers from the provinces of Antique and Capiz from ages 24 to 42, this study identified that in the context of distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic, queer Filipino teachers experience disorientation through the challenges brought about by norms in the learning setup that prescribes specific actions, practices and strategies to avoid and to prioritize. As they reflect on their disorienting experiences, the queer Filipino teacher recognizes a need to change their perspective and pedagogies to orient themselves in the space of distance education. This leads them to enact queering actions through a pedagogical performance of going beyond what are obligated and expected of them, as informed by their identities as queer people, as teachers, and as queer teachers.Item Concept of friendship and social network of children in Dao Elementary Central School, CapizApolinario, Charmaine Joy B.; Tuto, Angeles Jill D. Concept of Friendship and Social Network of Children in Dao Elementary Central School, Capiz. A research project submitted to the Division of Social Sciences, University of the Philippines in the Visayas, Miag-ao Iloilo. This is a descriptive study of children’s concept of friendship and their social network. This sought to know the concept of children about friendship and how they form their social network. Likewise, it also examined the kind of relationship among children. A total of sixty (60) participants were randomly chosen in the study. Out of the total participants, 29 were males and 31 females. The participants were obtained from Dao Central School Capiz using fishbowl method of simple random sampling. In gathering data, an open-ended questionnaire, Furman Friendship questionnaire and the Kite Network were used. Percentage, frequency distribution and average mean were used as tools of analysis. Friendship of children is determined on the basis of the good attitude that friends have to each other. The importance of gender and age were emphasized in viewing friendship and in forming children’s social networks. School serves as a venue to where children find their friends, children also gain friends through texting. In children’s social network, children were closely interconnected to same age and gender friends.
