Item Five-factor model of personality and job satisfaction on organizational commitment of bank employeesCaigoy, Denise C. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2015-05)This is a descriptive-correlational study aimed to determine and explore the relationship of personality traits, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment of bank employees in Iloilo City Proper. One hundred ten (110) bank employees aging 20-59 years old were selected through a convenience sampling. The instruments used were Big Five Inventory, Porter’s Job Satisfaction Survey, and Allen and Meyer's Organizational Commitment Questionnaire. Agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability (neuroticism) can predict affective commitment. Extraversion can develop continuance commitment. Agreeableness and Openness to experience can predict normative commitment. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2009-03)This study described the sexual identity, coming out, and romantic relationships among self-confessed college tomboys and lesbians. Eight respondents (6 tomboys; 2 lesbians) participated in this study. The tomboys were found to assume more of a masculine role, while lesbians the feminine role. Questionnaires were utilized to describe gender identity and coming out. Also, two Likert types of scales by John Mohr that is Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Identity Scale and Outness Inventory were used. One-one-one interview with the respondents was also conducted to further substantiate what it is being a tomboy or n.lesbian. Results showed that a greater number of respondents (50%) had experienced sexual identity confusion during their elementary years. The same percentage of respondents also reported that it was at the age of 15 that they first realized that they were homosexuals. All of the respondents are clear of their sexual identity and have fully accepted themselves. The respondents were open to their friends. While open to their friends, they remain to be closeted at home due to the stigma that is attached by their family members to tomboys and lesbians.Item The effect of perceiver's gender and masculinity on male masculinity performing female streotypic rolesCabrera, Gresilita Liza B.; Ochon, Maybelle Lalaine T. The results showed that perceiver’s gender did not affect perception but masculinity cues yielded a considerable mark. Both male and female responded remarkably on descriptions with high masculinity cues only. The results further indicated that there is no interaction between the two independent variables.Item Children's perception on the gender role content of Philippine television programsBrillo, Kharla Mae D.; Cruzada, Felecyl Joy P. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2022-05)This is a phenomenological study that sought to examine the lived experiences of informal caregivers providing home care to COVID-19 patients. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), five (5) Ilonggo informal caregivers who provided home care to COVID-19-positive household members participated in in-depth interviews. Results showed that home care during the pandemic involved additional protective measures and minimal contact with patients. While facing uncertainties without proper training and knowledge on caregiving much more on COVID-19, informal caregivers had to research and seek help from other experts. They also provided physical assistance in routine daily living activities as well as social and emotional support both to patients and other household members. The experience further warranted adjustments on their time management and emotional strength as the added responsibility of home care on top of work and studies had resulted in feelings of frustration and exhaustion. In spite of these challenges, being hands-on in providing care, social support from other family members, and hopefulness of patient recovery facilitated their experience. Informal caregivers then view and understand their experience as an accomplishment, a form of reciprocation to their family members who cared and provided for them, and as a part of their filial responsibility. Active institutional support is therefore recommended in order to ensure their physical and psychological health and well-being.Item Factors associated with relationship formation, maintenance, and dissolution among lesbian couples in Iloilo CityBengan, Tricia Kay B.; Isleta, Ashley Monique L. Given that males have taken on relatively new roles as full time parent to their children due to the migration of their wives, changes on their self-concept, the social support that they received, and their levels of subjective well-being were investigated. Ten stay-at-home fathers from the towns of San Joaquin and Miag-ao in southern Iloilo served as participants of this qualitative study. The respondents’ ages range from 27-56 years old. All of the respondents have children, and their wives have been working abroad for not less than a year. The results of this study show that stay-at-home fathers have high levels of subjective well-being as a result of them having positive self-concept and available social support from friends, immediate family members, and relatives. The results of this study can serve as basis in establishing effective programs that will provide support for stay-at-home fathers.Item Disorientation and queering action in distance education: The queer lived experiences of the queer Filipino teacherBalensoy, Timoteo C., III (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2022-05)Queer studies highlight that beyond the idea of gender and sexuality, queerness branches through a vast field of disciplines and focus, urging scholarly interest towards the queer phenomenological question regarding the peculiar and confusing experiences an individual acquires when occupying a particular space as well as the actions they do in a space. Utilizing Ahmed’s Queer Phenomenology (2006) as the theoretical anchor for this inquiry, this study explored queer lived experiences through the experiences of disorientation and the queering actions of queer Filipino teachers; specifically, the mechanisms, the experiences, and the outcomes as queer Filipino teachers become challenged by the normativity of distance education, and how they addressed the challenges they experienced from the disorientation. Through interviews with eight (8) self-identified queer DepEd High School teachers from the provinces of Antique and Capiz from ages 24 to 42, this study identified that in the context of distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic, queer Filipino teachers experience disorientation through the challenges brought about by norms in the learning setup that prescribes specific actions, practices and strategies to avoid and to prioritize. As they reflect on their disorienting experiences, the queer Filipino teacher recognizes a need to change their perspective and pedagogies to orient themselves in the space of distance education. This leads them to enact queering actions through a pedagogical performance of going beyond what are obligated and expected of them, as informed by their identities as queer people, as teachers, and as queer teachers.
