    Sources of stress, coping strategies and social support among seafarers of Leon, Iloilo

    The study sought to determine the sources of stress, coping strategies, and sources of social support of seafarers while they are on board. Twenty-three (23) male seafarers served as respondents, they were chosen using the convenience sampling. Questionnaires were utilized to study the variables under investigation. Results showed that seafarers faced problems on board related to their work, emotions, family and their work environmental adjustment. When it comes to managing stress on board, respondents used emotion-focused coping rather than problem-focused. They revealed that they received support from their friends and significant others, but their families were their primary social support.

    Work-family conflict, stress, and satisfaction among married female public elementary teachers

    This is a descriptive and correlational study which sought to explore the relationship of work-family conflict, stress and satisfaction among the respondents. Sixty-two (62) married female public elementary teachers participated in the study. Survey questionnaires were given to gather data about the studied variables. Results of the study showed that respondents are generally experiencing high level of work-family conflict and work-related stress but with low level of family-related stress. In general, respondents have positive attitude towards their job, experience less marital distress and have high level of life satisfaction. Relationships between these studied variables were also examined

    When parents are absent: A study on the role of grandmothers in child rearing

    This study examined the role of the grandmothers in a caregiving role. Role theory was used as a framework to guide this qualitative study. Four grandmothers who provided care for their grandchildren were interviewed. The result showed that grandmothers’ role had shifted from a traditional role to a grandmother caregiver role. As a consequence, grandmothers experienced stress, challenges, on-time or off-time role, life changes, and at the same time positive experiences. They experienced stress, challenges, and difficulties due to the role timing and role strain which hindered them to perform their role successfully. This research also showed that grandmothers, despite their old age, play a major role in child rearing especially when the parents of the children were absent.
