Item Level of political cynicism and political efficacy among the faculty members of Leonora S. Salapantan National High SchoolCalanza, Jean T. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, 2007-03)The perception of an individual, its level of participation, reaction or response to society specifically to the political system basically has an adverse effect on government or the political system itself. The extent or level of political participation one displays depends on the political stimuli he receives. And this level of participation also affects his attitude or behavior towards politically-significant objects. This research focused on the attitude of individuals towards the political system as affected by their knowledge in its programs and policies being implemented. This study used a descriptive and relational research design. This study utilized a questionnaire prepared by the researcher. The respondents were faculty members of Leonora S. Salapantan National High School of San Miguel, Iloilo. The hypotheses of this study were as follows : 1.) There is a significant relationship between sex, religion, years in service, educational attainment, residence, area of specialization and rank and level of political cynicism of faculty members of Leonora S. Salapantan National High School in San Miguel, Iloilo; 2.) There is a significant relationship between sex, religion, and years in service, educational attainment, and residence, area of specialization and rank and level of political efficacy of faculty members of Leonora S. Salapantan National High School in San Miguel, Iloilo, and; 3.) There is a significant relationship between the level of political cynicism and political efficacy of the respondents. As validity test, pre-test was conducted to 6 respondents not included in this study. Face validation was also done by someone knowledgeable in political participations, political cynicism and politician efficacy. The result of the study shows that the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents have no relationship to their level of political cynicism and level of efficacy of the respondents towards the Local Government Unit of San Miguel, Iloilo in its compliance with the Local Government Code. Based on the results, the hypotheses were therefore rejected. Moreover, it was found out that although the respondents possesses moderate to high level of political cynicism, they remain efficacious. This means that the perception and attitude of an individual towards the political system does not affect his level of political participation. This may be due to the fact that people were vigilant enough to know if what is happening in the political arena for this event or issue might affect him, may it be directly or indirectly.Item The political elites of Tubungan, Iloilo: Their characteristics and contributions to the municipality, 1992-2001Beriones, Beben C.; Garbe, Adeste B. In as much as ideal and necessary, the researchers tried to gather all documents about the topic, and tried to interview all the political elites; however, it was not possible due to some constraints like some documents were already lost, and two of the political elites are already living outside the province. (Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines, 1998)This is a study about the significant role of Filipino children in the guerrilla resistance movement in Panay from 1942 to 1945. The study seeks to: (a) identify who were these child guerrillas who participated in the guerrilla war, (b) ascertain the reasons why they participated in the resistance movement, (c) identify what roles they played and analyze how their roles helped the guerrilla resistance movement in Panay. The researcher utilized the technique of oral history and narratives of child guerrillas who were former members of the 61st Infantry Division. Secondary informants, who have knowledge about the resistance movement in Panay during the Second World War, like relatives, friends, and unit mates/comrades-in-arms of the child guerrillas were also interviewed. The approach used by the researcher in interviewing the informants was informal and did not make use of a questionnaire. The researcher let the informants tell their experiences during the guerrilla war. Materials from various libraries, such as books, theses, magazines, memoirs, and military documents, were also utilized. The collected data were then analyzed and cross-examined by corroborating the testimonies of the primary and secondary informants and findings in the library research in order to establish the authenticity of their narratives. From the informants, the researcher found out that there were a variety of reasons why they participated in the guerrilla resistance movement. Among these were patriotism, personal grievances, the desire to satisfy their sense of adventure, and economic conditions. The researcher also found out that adult guerrillas coerced some of the children. The research reveals that the contributions of children to the guerrilla movement were very significant. Their responsibilities as guerrillas include guarding mobile guerrilla installations; doing household chores, like cooking, washing clothes, cleaning weapons and campgrounds; and giving first aid to wounded guerrillas. Some of the child guerrillas were also involved in intelligence operations, signal and communications assignments, and military/combat operations. The researcher also found out from credible informants that there were almost a hundred child guerrillas who served the 61st Division. Most of them are still unidentified.
